Steam cooking is the method of cooking using steam. Although steaming is mostly used for cooking vegetables but then some people use it for cooking meat and poultry also. Steam cooking is the most preferred way of cooking because it ensures that all the nutritional value of the food can be retained even after steam cooing them. There is almost no or very less cooking oil required for steam cooking and thus the food is quite healthy and has low fat content which is good for health. Both vegetarian and non vegetarian recipes can be made through steaming like vegetables and rice in the vegetarian dishes and all kinds of meat, poultry, lobsters, fishes and other such products in the non vegetarian recipes.
There are special steam cookers available which are used to cook food using steam. Some of these cookers use solar energy and some of the cookers even use electric energy for generating steam in order to cook food. Also there are steam cooking ovens available with the help of which one can cook any kind of food item quite easily. Coking with steam that is steaming is a better process than boiling because more nutritional value is retained in the food items after steaming but in case of boiling much of the nutrients get lost with the water used for the purpose of boiling. There are also less chances of food getting burnt when prepared with the method of steam cooking.
